The Founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

Picture0002Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (1923 – 2011) founded Sahaja Yoga in 1970. She travelled tirelessly around the world for over 35 years, giving thousands of public programs to audiences sometimes large enough to fill stadiums.

Born with the full knowledge of the Kundalini and subtle system’s (energy centres and channels) working, she is the first person in history to give Kundalini Awakening en masse.

The practice of Sahaja Yoga is based on the vast body of knowledge which Shri Mataji passed on, available in thousands of audio and video recordings of speeches she gave to both the public and established practitioners.  Shri Mataji never took money for giving this knowledge and Self Realization.

Quotes of Shri Mataji

“Sahaja Yoga is a system by which your attention enters into your spirit. It’s an actualization. It is not talking, it is not sermoning, it is not conditioning, but it is a happening. And this happening takes place within us because we are made that way. God has created us specially for this last happening within us, where we become connected with our spirit, and thus we become connected with the spirit of all the people and actualize the experience of collective consciousness. It’s no question of giving any, what you call, the brainwashing, about it. It’s just a happening that has to take place within you. And this has been promised in all the scriptures. They say it is your second birth or they may say it is Self-Realization; and there are many other words people have used, but it is just the same.”  (26 July 1979, public program, Enfield, London, UK)

“Everyone has the spirit within himself. Everyone has the spirituality within himself. There is nothing that you get from outside. But before getting this knowledge, you are dealing or you are living in ignorance. In that ignorance you do not know what treasure you have got within yourself. So the guru’s (ie, teacher’s) job is to make you know what you are. That is the first step, that it starts that awakening within you by which you know that you are not this outside world – this is all an illusion. And you start getting enlightened within yourself. Some people get full light and some people get it gradually.”  (23 July 2000, Cabella, Italy)
